Beginning January 1, 2019, the minimum wage for large employers within the City of Seattle (employers with 500 or more workers) will be $16.00/hr. For small employers (employers with 500 or fewer employees), employees must be paid at least $15.00/hr. Small employers can pay an hourly wage of $15.00, or pay employees at least $12.00/hr. and make up the balance with a $3.00/hr. contribution toward an employee’s medical benefits or employee tips. The Office of Labor Standards will issue a new poster reflecting the higher wage rates which must be displayed in a noticeable area in the workplace.
