The Oregon Department of Revenue has released a new Form W-4 for use by Oregon employees starting on January 1, 2019. As the ODR explains: “The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) made changes to the federal tax code that directly impact how withholding allowances are calculated. As a result of these changes, use of federal Form W-4 to calculate Oregon withholding allowances may no longer result in adequate withholding for Oregon personal income taxes.”
The new Oregon Form W-4 will allow employees to make elections for Oregon withholding separately from federal elections. ODR has created an Oregon Withholding Calculator to help employees check whether they need to change their withholding and a “check withholding stuffer” for employers to include with employee paystubs to notify employees to check their Oregon personal income tax withholding.
